Register of Merit and Versatility Register of Merit

The Register of Merit (ROM) and Versatility Register of Merit (VROM) programs recognize those Giants that have had an impact on the breed through both the quality and quantity of their progeny as demonstrated by the successes of those Get in conformation and/or performance competition. The notable sires and dams listed in these registers are examples of the best of the Giant Schnauzer breed. They and their pedigrees are invaluable references for breeders in their quest to produce the ideal Giant Schnauzer as envisioned in our breed standard .

Recognition is based on the cumulative points earned by the Get of a Giant nominated for ROM or VROM. Additionally, there are minimum and maximum limits on the number of Get that may be included in the point calculation for a nominated Giant. Commensurate with the point totals of their Get, four levels of both ROM and VROM recognition are possible – Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum.

REGISTER OF MERIT

The Register of Merit program is intended for Giants whose progeny have excelled in conformation and is designed to acknowledge both the quantity and quality of their Get. While a ROM Giant must be owned or co-owned by a GSCA member, their Get do not have to be owned or co-owned by a GSCA member to be counted.

VERSATILITY REGISTER OF MERIT

The Versatility Register of Merit program is intended for Giants whose progeny have excelled in multiple competition events as prescribed in the GSCA Versatility Program. The VROM program is also designed to acknowledge both the quantity and quality of their Get. The Get do not have to be owned by GSCA members to be counted. But as Get belonging to non-members are ineligible for the GSCA Versatility Program awards, additional documentation of their participation and titles in the various competition events will be required as part of the VROM application.

APPLICATION

Applications for ROM and VROM recognition should be submitted via the ROM and VROM Application form during the first quarter of each year. Additionally, a Get Information form is required for each of the Get associated with a ROM or VROM nomination.

Similar to other awards in the GSCA Awards Program , the submission deadline is March 31st. Applications are reviewed during April and May and processed in conjunction with other GSCA awards (Top 10, etc.) for the year.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

To be nominated for ROM or VROM, a Giant must be owned or co-owned by a GSCA member in good standing and have been assigned a Canine Health Information Center (CHIC) number. (Giants born before January 1, 2010 are, however, exempt from the CHIC eligibility requirement.) Giants may be nominated posthumously provided all eligibility requirements are met.

Although ROM and VROM registry are lifetime achievements that reflect the cumulative accomplishments of their Get, recipients will be recognized at the annual awards banquet during the year in which they were nominated. Because the level of ROM or VROM recognition may increase over time based on additional accomplishments of their Get, recipients may be eligible for higher levels or ROM and VROM recognition in the future.

Refer to the  GSCA Annual Awards Program documentation  for more details on the ROM and VROM programs.
